My Considered Theory on Fibromyalgia and Copper Toxicity
Today many women, and some men, are tempted and lulled into eating what is considered by many to be a “clean” diet consisting of green smoothies or loads of kale, spinach, avocados, along with a “healthy” helping of nuts and seeds. All these are very high in copper. As a matter of fact eating all of this each day leads to that “healthy” person taking in a supraphysiologic dose of copper, and yes, leading to a toxic level of copper. The ads for kale, almonds, and avocados are everywhere, too, and they really make eating them seem right. Some of these suffering fibro patients even get upset if anyone suggests they should consider avoiding these foods in order to get rid of their lifetime medical issues of pain and agony they suffer from due to excessive copper intake. From my observations in the last two years I don’t believe most humans can handle this much copper. Period.
Our ancestors didn’t appear to have fibromyalgia (or most never complained about such chronic pain but they mostly were a tough bunch of pioneers) but neither did they ever eat avocados, kale, or more than a rare handful of nuts they found on the trail in a wild bush or tree. Your grandmother just didn’t eat a lot of high copper foods. They did eat as a staple a lot of white beans and black eyed peas which are very high in molybdenum (which helps your copper metallothionein appropriately move copper around). So is their any wonder why fibromyalgia is rampant in the western world today?
I feel guilty and swimming against the tide to even suggest this theory but as we’ve seen, it just works.
Stepping off my soapbox. Thanks for reading. (And hat tip to MENSAHMEDICAL.COM and DIANEKRAZER.COM for the pics and lists.)
