Interferon gamma and macrophage activation

Interferon gamma and macrophage activation

IFNG encodes interferon gamma, a cytokine involved in cellular immune defense and activation of macrophages. It differs from the Th2 signals more often emphasized in allergic responses.

Putting the pieces together

Dr. Purser connects IFN-γ with sarcoidosis and macrophage-driven inflammation. Sarcoidosis is a clinical diagnosis requiring appropriate assessment; an IFNG marker or isolated cytokine result cannot establish it. IL2RA provides a related, but distinct, immune-activation lesson.

Where the VARS Triad and MTHFR Daily fit

If you are exploring homocysteine or cytokines, Dr. Purser may discuss MTHFR Daily and the VARS Triad: VARS Glutathione, VARS SOD, and VARS Catalase. He gives glutathione a central place in his approach to antioxidant support.

A gene result alone cannot tell you that you need these products or that they will treat a condition. Review your current results, medicines, goals, and tolerance with your clinician before choosing a product or dose.

A question to bring to your visit

Is there a clinically established granulomatous or inflammatory condition behind this discussion?
