Understand the connection

IL23R encodes a receptor that receives the IL-23 signal. This pathway helps support Th17 immune cells and their downstream cytokines, including IL-17.

Follow the pathway

Dr. Purser connects IL-23 receptor signaling with inflammatory bowel disease, psoriasis, and inflammatory joint pathways. Targeting IL-23 with a medicine is different from concluding that a genetic result proves excessive receptor activity.

Bring these questions to your visit

Ask which result is being discussed: a genetic variant, a measured protein level, or a diagnosed condition. How does it fit with your symptoms and other tests? Dr. Purser discusses antioxidant support alongside these pathways; ask how any supplement would fit with your medicines and care plan.
