Understand the connection

Mesothelioma is a cancer that requires specialist diagnosis and treatment. The tumor environment includes immune and inflammatory processes as well as the cancer cells themselves.

Follow the pathway

Dr. Purser discusses asbestos-related injury, HMGB1 danger signaling, TNF-alpha, NF-κB, and oxidative stress as research pathways. Understanding an inflammatory mechanism does not establish that antioxidant supplements reverse a cancer or replace cancer treatment.

Bring these questions to your visit

Ask the oncology team which therapies are supported for the specific cancer and how any supplement may interact with them. Research mechanisms and proposed interventions need to be distinguished from demonstrated clinical outcomes.
