Understand the connection

MTHFR helps make 5-methyltetrahydrofolate, a folate form used in homocysteine remethylation. B12-dependent MTR is another part of that route.

Follow the pathway

Dr. Purser connects homocysteine with immune signaling, oxidative stress, and antioxidant defenses. He discusses C677T and A1298C, riboflavin, folate forms, and related pathways. A common MTHFR variant does not establish elevated homocysteine or diagnose an autoimmune condition.

Bring these questions to your visit

Ask whether homocysteine, folate, B12, kidney function, and other relevant measurements support the interpretation. Review nutrient choices and any autoimmune diagnosis as related but separate clinical questions.
