Understand the connection

RAD50 is a DNA repair protein, not a cytokine. It forms the MRN complex with MRE11 and NBS1, helping cells recognize and respond to double-strand DNA breaks.

Follow the pathway

Dr. Purser explains how the MRN complex recruits repair machinery such as ATM and connects DNA damage with oxidative stress. Research on cancer-related pathways does not mean every common RAD50 variant confers a hereditary cancer syndrome.

Bring these questions to your visit

Ask whether the exact finding is a common SNP, a variant of uncertain significance, or a pathogenic variant. Genetic counseling and clinical classification are more useful than interpreting a repair-gene name in isolation.
