FOLR2

FOLR2 encodes folate receptor beta, a folate-binding protein expressed in particular cell types, including subsets of immune cells. It is distinct from the FOLR1 receptor and the SLC19A1 reduced folate carrier.

Putting the pieces together

Dr. Purser’s folate notes include FOLR2 as part of the uptake story. The practical teaching is to distinguish nutrient intake, intestinal absorption and cellular transport instead of calling every folate-related result an MTHFR problem. A listed variant does not directly measure folate absorption.

Are we evaluating low intake, absorption, transport or a separate folate-related condition?
