Managing folate inside cells

Managing folate inside cells

GGH encodes gamma-glutamyl hydrolase, which removes glutamate residues from folate compounds. This affects folate handling and helps explain why folate metabolism includes retention and processing as well as intake.

Putting the pieces together

Dr. Purser notes an indirect connection to homocysteine. Follow that connection through the wider folate network, including MTHFR, MTR and nutrient status, rather than interpreting GGH as a direct homocysteine reading. Some medicines also interact with folate pathways and belong in the review.

Where the VARS Triad and MTHFR Daily fit

If you are exploring homocysteine or cytokines, Dr. Purser may discuss MTHFR Daily and the VARS Triad: VARS Glutathione, VARS SOD, and VARS Catalase. He gives glutathione a central place in his approach to antioxidant support.

A gene result alone cannot tell you that you need these products or that they will treat a condition. Review your current results, medicines, goals, and tolerance with your clinician before choosing a product or dose.

A question to bring to your visit

Do my folate, B12 and homocysteine findings support a folate-handling concern?
