Acetylation and medication handling

NAT2 encodes N-acetyltransferase 2, which helps process certain drugs and other compounds. Combinations of variants can influence acetylation status; one SNP usually does not tell the entire story.

Putting the pieces together

Dr. Purser’s notes place NAT2 near detoxification and copper-related questions. NAT2 is not ceruloplasmin or metallothionein, and its genotype does not measure copper retention. If copper is a concern, interpret actual copper-related tests separately; if medication metabolism is the concern, use a validated pharmacogenetic interpretation.

A question to bring to your visit

Is the relevant question medication acetylation or a separately measured copper problem?
