Artery health: a guide to the therapies report

Compare artery imaging, blood markers, and actual heart health outcomes.

Educational summary · Source edition: 2022

Why this matters

Compare artery imaging, blood markers, and actual heart health outcomes.

How the pieces connect

Artery imaging, a lab marker, and a heart attack are different kinds of outcomes. Ask which outcome a claimed therapy was actually shown to change.

A plaque image and a clinical event are different outcomes

Dr. Purser discusses imaging alongside medicines, supplements and lifestyle ideas. Imaging can describe features of arteries, while a clinical trial may ask whether treatment prevents heart attacks or strokes. Those outcomes are related but not identical. A report of plaque regression needs its own context: the imaging method, study population, comparison group and follow-up period. It should not be converted into a general promise to “clean out” arteries.

Keep in mind

“Clean out your arteries” is a catchy title, not a promise to reverse plaque. Supplements do not replace prescribed heart care.
