Why this matters

See why symptoms and repeat testing both matter when discussing testosterone in men.

How the pieces connect

Fatigue and low mood have many possible causes. Compatible symptoms and consistently low measurements help guide a diagnosis.

A symptom pattern needs confirmation

Dr. Purser associates low testosterone with many aspects of health. That breadth makes it especially important to distinguish a possible clue from a confirmed diagnosis. Fatigue, mood changes and body-composition changes are not unique to testosterone deficiency. The Endocrine Society describes diagnosis as requiring compatible symptoms and consistently low testosterone, with testing interpreted in the appropriate clinical setting. A long symptom list should start an evaluation, not select treatment by itself.

Keep in mind

Some older teaching includes targets or plans that may no longer fit your care. Bring your current results and goals to a qualified clinician before changing treatment.
