Understand the connection

Hashimoto’s thyroiditis is an autoimmune thyroid condition. Immune activity and thyroid hormone function are connected, but they are not interchangeable measurements.

Follow the pathway

Dr. Purser discusses Th1 and Th17 signaling, interferons, IL-6, and TNF-alpha alongside thyroid autoantibodies and oxidative stress. Thyroid hormone replacement addresses hormone deficiency, which is a different goal from interpreting inflammatory pathways.

Bring these questions to your visit

Ask how TSH, free T4, symptoms, and antibody findings fit together. Discuss thyroid medicine timing and any supplements that could interfere with absorption or testing.
