IL-6 links inflammatory and metabolic signals

IL-6 links inflammatory and metabolic signals

IL6 encodes interleukin-6, a cytokine involved in immune responses and acute-phase signaling. It can appear in discussions of infection, chronic inflammation and metabolic health, with effects that depend on the context.

Putting the pieces together

Dr. Purser places IL-6 prominently in his cytokine teaching and connects inflammatory workload with his homocysteine and redox framework. IL6 variation, a measured IL-6 concentration and a diagnosis of inflammatory disease are three different kinds of information. IL6R adds the receptor side of the story.

More from the teaching: Inflammation, energy and metabolic overlap

In Dr. Purser’s course, IL-6 sits at the intersection of inflammatory signaling, fatigue/pain discussions and liver or metabolic context. A DNA finding in IL6 must be distinguished from a blood measurement of IL-6 and from a diagnosis explaining why a marker is elevated.

Putting the pieces together

Immune signals can be discussed alongside homocysteine and antioxidant defenses. Track when symptoms flare and what may trigger them, then review any measured results with your clinician. A single variant or cytokine result cannot diagnose an autoimmune disease or a cytokine storm.

Where the VARS Triad and MTHFR Daily fit

If you are exploring homocysteine or cytokines, Dr. Purser may discuss MTHFR Daily and the VARS Triad: VARS Glutathione, VARS SOD, and VARS Catalase. He gives glutathione a central place in his approach to antioxidant support.

A gene result alone cannot tell you that you need these products or that they will treat a condition. Review your current results, medicines, goals, and tolerance with your clinician before choosing a product or dose.

What was happening clinically when the inflammatory measurement was collected?

Variant lookup

These names can help you find an entry on your original genetic report. Seeing a name here does not tell you whether it affects your health or whether you need treatment.
