THE TEACHING CONNECTION

An antioxidant team with different jobs

An antioxidant team with different jobs

Dr. Purser teaches redox defense as a connected team. SOD handles superoxide and produces hydrogen peroxide. Catalase and glutathione peroxidases help handle peroxides. Glutathione synthesis, use and recycling involve additional enzymes, so a single word such as “antioxidant” can hide several different processes.

Putting the pieces together

The VARS Triad is his teaching framework for discussing glutathione, SOD and catalase together. Current nutrient/redox findings, genetics, symptoms and tolerance determine the clinical conversation. A pathway diagram does not prove the effectiveness of a particular supplement, and a reaction is not automatically evidence that detoxification is working.

Where the VARS Triad and MTHFR Daily fit

If you are exploring homocysteine or cytokines, Dr. Purser may discuss MTHFR Daily and the VARS Triad: VARS Glutathione, VARS SOD, and VARS Catalase. He gives glutathione a central place in his approach to antioxidant support.

A gene result alone cannot tell you that you need these products or that they will treat a condition. Review your current results, medicines, goals, and tolerance with your clinician before choosing a product or dose.

How these signals may connect

Outlive Your Toxic Genetics links homocysteine, reduced glutathione availability, oxidative signaling and inflammatory messenger release in a proposed feedback loop. NF-κB appears as a regulator of inflammatory gene expression; IL-8/CXCL8 and MCP-1/CCL2 are the named chemokines. This explains why Dr. Purser places antioxidant support at the center of his model.

A proposed feedback loop helps organize questions, but does not show that every person has each part of the loop or that one supplement interrupts it clinically. Current measurements and clinical context remain separate from the teaching diagram.

A question to bring to your visit

Which redox findings are actually measured, which are genetic clues, and how will the plan be paced and reviewed?

Reading your own results

Bring your original report, current results, health history, and medicines to your visit. This information can help you ask questions, but it cannot diagnose a condition or choose a supplement dose for you.
