Understand the connection

IL-6 signaling intersects with metabolism, insulin resistance, and inflammatory responses in the liver. Fatty liver disease can progress to inflammation and scarring in some people.

Follow the pathway

Dr. Purser discusses hepatic stellate cells, fibrosis, and the interaction of cytokines with reactive oxygen species. He follows the antioxidant partnership of glutathione, superoxide dismutase, and catalase while also considering nutrition and the metabolic causes of MASLD or MASH.

Bring these questions to your visit

Ask which result is being discussed: a genetic variant, a measured protein level, or a diagnosed condition. How does it fit with your symptoms and other tests? Dr. Purser discusses antioxidant support alongside these pathways; ask how any supplement would fit with your medicines and care plan.
