Understand the connection

Lichen planus is an inflammatory condition that can affect skin, the mouth, nails, and other surfaces. Examination helps distinguish it from similar-looking conditions.

Follow the pathway

Dr. Purser connects T-cell activity, IFN-gamma, TNF-alpha, and related immune pathways with damage to affected tissue. He also discusses oxidative stress and the difference between localized symptoms and wider immune activity.

Bring these questions to your visit

Ask whether biopsy or another assessment would clarify the diagnosis and how to monitor the affected area. Persistent mouth or genital symptoms deserve specific evaluation.
