Understand the connection

SULT2A1 helps sulfate steroids such as DHEA and also participates in the processing of bile acids and other compounds. DHEA and its sulfated form, DHEAS, are related but different measurements.

Follow the pathway

Dr. Purser discusses rs2910397 and rs2637125 in this pathway, alongside liver processing, hormone balance, and oxidative stress. Common variants are different from confirmed disease-causing mutations, and a genotype does not directly measure enzyme activity.

Bring these questions to your visit

Ask how DHEA, DHEAS, other hormone tests, and liver findings fit together. Do not use a common SULT2A1 variant alone to decide that you need a hormone or to predict a liver condition.
