Collagen structure, tendons and connective tissue

COL5A1 encodes one component of type V collagen, which helps organize collagen fibers. It connects to the strength and structure of tendons, skin and other connective tissues.

Putting the pieces together

Dr. Purser’s notes emphasize tendon laxity and the importance of matching activity to the person. Common markers listed in a wellness panel do not diagnose Ehlers–Danlos syndrome. Recurrent dislocations, unusual skin findings, injury patterns and family history are more useful starting points for an appropriate connective-tissue evaluation.

A question to bring to your visit

Do my examination and injury history suggest a connective-tissue condition or a need to adapt training?
