Understand the connection

CCL2, also called MCP-1, helps recruit monocytes through the CCR2 receptor. Monocytes can become macrophages, cells that remove debris and participate in inflammation.

Follow the pathway

Dr. Purser follows the CCL2–CCR2 pathway through blood-vessel, kidney, and metabolic inflammation. He discusses homocysteine, NF-κB signaling, and reactive oxygen species as interacting parts of this picture, alongside glutathione, superoxide dismutase, and catalase.

Bring these questions to your visit

Ask which result is being discussed: a genetic variant, a measured protein level, or a diagnosed condition. How does it fit with your symptoms and other tests? Dr. Purser discusses antioxidant support alongside these pathways; ask how any supplement would fit with your medicines and care plan.
